Gasketed plate heat exchangers are limited by two factors,
the maximum pressure and maximum temperature the gasket material can
with stand. Once this is reached your only alternative up until a few
years ago was to move over to a shell and tube design. This caused the
usual problems with increased physical size of unit and increased cost.
That was until the all welded plate heat exchanger came in to being.
The welded plate heat exchanger combines the best features of both
conventional plate heat exchangers and shell and tube units. It has the
advantages that it can handle liquids, gases and two-phase mixtures at
very high pressures at both low and high temperatures.

The other advantages
of this type of heat exchanger construction:
- Choice of materials to
suit application or service conditions.
- Plates available in
Titanium, Stainless steel or other alloys.
- High heat transfer
coefficient and greater overall efficiency.
- Compact design and low
weight compared to shell & tube.
- Fully welded and
therefore no leaks.
Typical applications
for these units:
- High temperature thermal
oil processing.
- Edible oil processing
- Organic chemical
heaters.
- Refrigeration
evaporators & condensers
- De-ionized water cooling
systems.
- Heat recovery units
– de-superheaters
- Offshore oil and gas
applications.
